Phillip Russek

Phillip was born March 9, 1932, in Detroit Michigan to parents Jack and Rose Russek. Phillip graduated from Cass Tech High School in Detroit in 1950. Phillip then joined the Navy on January 31, 1951, and served four years, receiving an honorable discharge on January 10, 1955. While in the Navy, he attained the rank of Electricians Mate Petty Officer 3rd Class and served in a maritime combat zone during the Korean War, as well as post-WWII occupation duty in Japan. His combat zone duty was aboard the USS Arakara, an armed tug. His authorized service medals included the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the Navy Occupation Medal (Japan), the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean War Medal, the United Nations Medal (Korea), and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal from the government of the Republic of Korea. Phillip separated from the Navy in San Francisco California. Phillip married his first wife Shirley Wolak, and they had two sons, Ronald and Max. Phillip and Shirley divorced after 12 years of marriage in 1967. On Jan 26, 1968, Phillip married Dolores Marie Saunders in Akron Ohio. At that time Phillip adopted her son Bruce and raised him as his own. He and Dolores then moved to southern California around 1977, joining her brothers Frank, Robert, and Lawrence, who had left Ohio for the Golden State many years earlier. Phillip and Dolores remained married until the time of her passing on March 9, 2013. In 1983, Phillip established Russek Construction, He and his family resettled to Corona California where he managed countless large-scale housing developments in and around the state. Phillip enjoyed many things one of which was sharing his love for fishing. He shared this time of family and recreation throughout his life. Phillip is survived by his sons Ronald, Max, and Bruce.
