Rafaela Hernndez Trujillo 10/26/1943-6/1/2022 We love you and miss you. We wish we could hug you, take your hand, hold you tight, and never let you go. It pains us because you mean so much to each and every one of us but we know you are not suffering any more as you ascend into the Heavens. You will always have a special place in our memories, in our hearts, and in our souls. May God bless you and protect you. ________________________________________ Rafaela Hernndez Trujillo was born the daughter of Juan Hernandez and Epinemia Lopez in Santiaguillo, Guanajuato, Mexico. She was the wife of Rafael Alcantar Trujillo, mother of four, grandmother of nine, and great-grandmother of one. She is survived by two of her four siblings. At the tender age of 12, her mother abruptly passed away. She then became the caretaker of her younger siblings. Through poverty and hardships, these new responsibilities shaped her into becoming a strong and independent woman many have come to know. At age 19, Rafaela met and stole her future husband's heart. She accompanied her cousin and aunt to pay a visit to her future mother-in-law. It was love at first sight for both Rafaela and Rafael, a coincidence that drew them closer together. While at the house, Rafaela mistakenly believed Rafael was interested in her cousin but quickly found he had laid eyes on her. They were married 5 years later at la Parroquia de San Pedro Apostol in Chupicuaro, Guanajuato, Mexico and the newlyweds spent their honeymoon in Mexico City. Rafaela made a lot of sacrifices during her early marriage. Her husband migrated to Illinois days before their second child was born. She stayed behind with their toddlers until her husband returned for them in 1973. Her husband picked her up in a Ford Fairlane 500. The young family drove almost 2,000 miles from Guanajuato to California. Rafaela's first job in California consisted of long days in the fields as was common in those days and found steady employment at Norco Ranch, the local egg-packing plant owned by a Holocaust survivor. She was financially independent and supported her husband in his many business ventures over the years. In 1976, they bought their first home in Corona and had two additional children. She had an early retirement 10 years later and dedicated the rest of her life to nurturing her growing family that eventually included her grandchildren. She was a faithful wife, and a loving, yet strong, matriarch. She regularly attended Sunday mass and baptized all of her children. She hosted numerous visiting family members and large family reunions. Her conversations at these regular functions indicated she regularly had her children and her family on her mind. Rafaela touched the lives of many people and will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and acquaintances. She passed away at the age of 78 surrounded by loved ones.
