Richard Harold Kendall

August 8, 1945 — February 18, 2022

Richard Kendall was born August 8, 1945 in Los Angeles to Grace and Harold Kendall. He grew up in San Gabriel in a typical 50's neighborhood, with as baseball his favorite pastime. His father owned a Service Station in Los Angeles. At age 12, he started working on weekends with his father helping at the gas station. His love of fixing old cars was born. Rich graduated from San Gabriel High School in 1963, and received his AA degree from Mt San Antonio Community College with his apprenticeship in machining and mold making completed. He worked for Huskie International as a supervisor and in 1990 he opened his own business, Rich Tool. In 1989, Rich received a liver transplant. He recovered and although he had some major health scares in the following years, he was able to have a full and happy life. In 1991, Rich married Karen and began a new chapter in his life filled with children and grandchildren. Rich loved his horses, and basically being a cowboy. He was a team roper and he always had a horse or two or more at the ranch. His other love, old cars. He so enjoyed Saturday mornings with his old car guys where they would gather and talk about "cars" and the one that got away. He loved his classic cars. And he loved camping. From a tent to trailers, and finally a motorhome. Family camping trips to San Elijo State Beach and travels to California's Central Coast were a tradition. In 2000, he and Karen drove the Alaskan Highway to Alaska and back. A seven week trip that was a highlight in their life together. Rich and Karen loved Hawaii, especially the island of Kauai, and would voyage there once a year where they fell in love with the island and its peacefulness. A good man in every way, he was adored by his children and grandchildren, nieces, sons and daughters in law and all who met him. He could fix anything broken and always did. He is survived by his loving wife Karen, his daughter Erin, his sons Marc and Mitchell, his grandchildren Hunter, Claire, Jillian, Addison, and Charly, and his sister Julie. He is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Grace Kendall. In lieu of flowers please donate to Peppermint Ridge at Peppermintridge.org in Richs honor.
