Richard John DeWit, 84, died peacefully with his family by his side, March 27, 2023, at Riverside Community Hospital. He was born September 22, 1938, at Loma Linda Hospital, the son of Peter and Gladys DeWit. Richard graduated from Chino High School, class of 1956. Following graduation, he served with the US Army from 1957 to 1960. He completed his basic training at Fort Ord, California, before going to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he went to jump school and became a paratrooper. He also spent time in Germany and Lebanon. After his military service, he went back home to Chino where he met and married Celia Guillen, October 1965. Richard retired from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power after 30 years of service. Richard and Celia lived in Chino until Celia's passing in April 2021. Richard was an animal lover, avid reader, and sports fan. He loved to watch Dodgers and Angels baseball, NASCAR, rodeos, and Bundesliga, the German Soccer League. Richard is predeceased by his parents and wife. He is survived by his son, Richard DeWit Jr and his wife Amy of Kennesaw, Georgia; daughter Kelly Lockman and her husband Don of Corona; four grandchildren, Emily Lockman, Abigail Lockman, Grace DeWit, Jack DeWit; and his sister Dorri Van Sloten of Cary, North Carolina. Services will be held at Thomas Miller Mortuary in Corona on April 20, 2023, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM with interment following at Riverside National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life for immediate family only will be April 22, 2023 at Yanks Air Museum in Chino.
