Rito was born on May 22, 1932 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Angelina and Ramon Rangel. He had four brothers; Jesse, Gregorio, Martin, and Ramon. Rito enlisted in the Marine Corps at 15 years old by lying about his age, but when his father found out he notified the military and had him discharged, but Rito re-enlisted when he reached the appropriate age. He fought in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and Gold Star in lieu of a second Purple Heart for wounds sustained in a missile attack. He first saw his wife at a dance in Texas, and later met her in California. They fell in love and were married for 48 years. Rito worked as a custodian for the Santa Ana Unified School District and retired after 20+ years of service. He is survived by his son Ignacio Rangel, Elsa Rangel (wife), and his three grandchildren; Nicholas 29, Carissa 27, and Luke 23. Rito was very active and enjoyed playing with his senior softball teams and became an avid runner, competing in many 5K races. Rito always enjoyed helping his family, friends, and anyone who needed it. He will always be remembered and dearly missed by all who knew him.
