Rosalie June Pluim, lovingly known to so many simply as Ro or Grandma, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born on June 10, 1935, in Corona, California, Ro spent her entire life in the town she loved. Raising her family, building lifelong friendships, and creating a legacy of strength, love, and unwavering devotion to those around her.
Ro was a force. A true trailblazer long before anyone used that word, she was strong, independent, and fiercely determined. She raised her two daughters on her own, providing not only for her family but also setting an example of resilience, grit, and grace. She built an impressive career, rising to become the Vice-President of a local insurance company, at a time when women were rarely given a seat at that table. She earned her place and then made room for others.
She was sharp, funny, and never afraid to say exactly what needed to be said. She had high standards, a quick wit, and a heart that made room for everyone. She believed in honesty, strength, and showing up for the people you love.
Her greatest joy, however, was always her family. She loved having everyone together, holidays, celebrations, and ordinary Sundays that became unforgettable simply because everyone was there. She loved hosting, not for the cooking (because she would happily tell you she hated that part), but for the laughter, the noise, the stories, and the feeling of being surrounded by the people she loved most. To Ro, family was never limited to blood. If you were in her life, you were family.
Her faith shaped the way she moved through the world. One of the lessons she shared often was: “God didn’t cut everyone from the same cloth, He made each person unique, and that is what made them special in His eyes.” She believed deeply in the dignity of every person and had a gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard “Dick” Pluim, who passed away in 2005, the love of her life and her great love story. He was without question, her person. Their love was joyful, steady, and unforgettable. In true Ro fashion, they were married later that same evening at her eldest daughter’s wedding, a story that perfectly reflected the beauty, humor, and boldness with which she lived her life.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Dana Regan and Toni House; her stepsons, Charles Pluim and Michael Pluim; her stepdaughter, Stephanie Schauland; and a family legacy that stretches far beyond names on a page. Between Ro and Dick, they shared many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless grand and great-grand pets. But the truth is, she was Grandma to far more than that. She welcomed everyone in, loved fiercely, and left no doubt that once you were hers, you were hers for life.
Ro leaves behind a family shaped by her strength, a community touched by her generosity, and a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, honesty, faith, and love. She will be deeply missed, endlessly talked about, and forever remembered.
