Ruth Mary Young

Ruth Mary (Steuwer) Young, 94, passed away in Corona, California on Wednesday, May 1st. Ruth was born in 1925 in South Gate, graduated from South Gate High School Class of 1943 and joined the Marines in 1951 stationed at M.C.R.D. Parris Island, SC and part of the Third Recruit Battalion, Platoon 8-A. Ruth worked for Firestone Tire Company after her service, where she met her husband Robert L. Young. They moved from Lynwood to Long Beach in 1956, raised 2 daughters and over 200 foster children throughout the mid-1960s and until the late 1970s. Ruth was an avid doll collector with a collection of over 200 dolls, seamstress in her spare time, making patchwork quilts, clothes for her children, foster children, dolls, and grandchildren. Ruth moved to Corona in 1993 and was actively involved with her congregation Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church on McKinley. Ruth is survived by her only living sibling, sister Dorothy, daughters Judithanne and Suzanne, 5 grandchildren: Todd, Cynthia, Amanda, Michael, Monica, and 9 great grandchildren: Haley, Wayde, Wyatt, Mason, Trinity, Gabriel, Benjamin, Samuel, and Harper.
