Shelley Carson, 68, of Corona, CA passed away on June 3, 2021, in her home. Shelley was born in Roseburg, Oregon on June 14, 1952, to Irene and Joe Brant. Irene and Joe had 5 children and Shelley was the 4th youngest out of her siblings - sisters Jody, Carol, Mary, and younger brother Joe. Shelleys family moved to Southern California when she was 5 years old and resided in Bell, CA. In 1970, Shelley graduated from Bell High School. Shelley married Ken Carson in 1983, and in 1988, they moved to Corona, CA where together raised two daughters, Chelsea and Kayley. Shelley dedicated her life to education, specifically helping students learn to read. She was passionate about teaching students who struggled in school and wanted to give them a chance to succeed. She received her bachelors degree from Cal State Fullerton and a masters degree and teaching credential in reading from Cal State Fullerton. She worked at Columbus High School in Downey, CA for 16 years as a Reading/English teacher. During that time, she won High School Teacher of the Year in 1989 and worked as a Program Director for a Drop Out Prevention Program. In 1996, she moved on to Parkridge Elementary in Corona where she really enjoyed helped younger children as a Reading Specialist. During this time, she also worked as an independent study teacher helping tutor high school students at their homes. In 2008, she left Parkridge and worked at Roosevelt High School in Corona where she taught reading to high school students. Shelley retired from the Corona-Norco Unified School District in 2010, however, she couldn't stay away from education too long. She was hired shortly after as a college professor at Chaffey College in Chino, CA where she continued to teach reading until 2017. Shelley's life passion was teaching, and she spent 34 years as an educator. During her free time, she loved listening to live music, shopping, traveling, watching sports, writing poetry, being with friends and family, and finding solace being at the beach. She is survived by her spouse, Ken Carson, her daughters Chelsea and Kayley, her sisters Jody, Mary and Carol, her brother Joe, along with nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and friends who she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her mother Irene Brant and her father Joe Brant. Please join us to celebrate her life on June 26, 2021, at Thomas Miller Mortuary 1118 E 6th St, Corona, CA 92879 from 11a-1p. A reception to immediately follow the service at the Corona Club 1212 E 6th St, Corona, CA 92879.
