Susan Christine Avalos

Susan Christine Avalos (nee Martinez) was born on January 1, 1947, the first baby born in the Pomona Valley of that year. She died peacefully on March 28, 2024, surrounded by her family. Susan grew up in Chino, graduated from Chino High School in 1964 and attended Mt. San Antonio College. In 1969, Susan married Louis Avalos, and moved to Corona, where she raised her family and lived until her death.

Susan worked for the Chino Unified School District at the district offices and Los Serranos Elementary School. She worked many more years for the Corona-Norco Unified School District and retired from Corona Fundamental Intermediate School. Always a faithful servant, she devoted time to her church as a catechist. Over the years Susan enjoyed needle crafts, oil painting, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

Susan is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Louis Avalos, her children Matthew Avalos (Teresa), and Sara Avalos Martin (Troy), her granddaughters Nicolette Spencer (Avalos), Brooke Avalos, and Scarlet Creighton. She will also be missed by her brothers Steven Martinez and Rod Martinez, her sisters Elissa Martinez San Juan and Regina Martinez-Keddy, her many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in-law, cousins, and friends. Susan was preceded in death by her grandson Brendan Avalos, her parents Leonardo “Lupe” and Christine Martinez, and her brother Leonard Martinez.

Services will be at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 3760 N. McKinley St., in Corona, on Thursday April 25, 2024, with the viewing from 12 to 1 p.m. Mass will follow from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Crestlawn Memorial Park, 11500 Arlington Ave., Riverside.
