Drake Vanderpool of Corona, California, passed away on December 10, 2025. Drake was born on March 15, 1949, in New London, Connecticut to Jay and Francis Vanderpool. Having grown up in a military household, Drake’s family moved around often. They lived in various places around Ventura and Bakersfield. After graduating from South High School, Drake attended Bakersfield Junior College before deciding to enlist in the Navy. He served as a Gunner’s Mate on the U.S.S. Gallant and the U.S.S. Embattle. Drake learned the welding trade in 1973 while serving in the Navy. After leaving the Navy, he worked for several years on various offshore platforms from Long Beach to Santa Barbara. Drake eventually was hired by the Bonsall and Elsinore Valley Municipal Water Districts. He retired from the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District in 2009.

Drake was an amazing husband and father, who enjoyed spending time with his family. He and his wife, Daureen, celebrated 55 years of marriage this past July. They were blessed with one child, Deanna. They lived in Norco for 25 years. In 2005, Drake and Daureen moved to Trilogy in Corona where they enjoyed golfing, and socializing with friends.

Drake loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, surfing, playing poker and golfing. He also loved to cook. Family and friends really enjoyed his deep pit BBQ creations. Drake was involved in local politics, community service and youth mentoring. He joined the Norco Lions Club and was a Master Mason with the Masonic Lodge 314 in Corona. He also served on the Norco Streets and Trails Commission. But what he enjoyed the most, was being a coach for Norco Junior All American Football.

Drake is survived by his loving wife, Daureen; his daughter, Deanna Stearns; son in law Gerry; two granddaughters, Brianna and Brigett; two great grandchildren, Iris Anne and Vincente Thomas; his sister, Dianne Rogers; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, who he loved spending time with. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His family and friends will cherish the moments they shared with him and will always remember his kindness, laughter, and warmth.

A special thank you to my sister, Claudeen Garcia, The Pine Nuts and the many family members and friends for their support during these last few months.

A memorial service will be held on January 9, 2026 at Riverside National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held following the service.
