Vernon was born on August 11, 1945, in Milwuakee, Wisconsin to parents, Vernon and Catherine (Jung) Stoehr. He has three sisters, Darlene, Lynn and Marie. He attended both public and private schools and graduated from Pius High School. He worked for a short time at the phone company, bartending at a restaurant, and helping in his fathers business which sold fine kitchenware including waterless cookware, china and crystal. As the Vietnam War was affecting young men in the 1960s; he decided to join the Coast Guard, instead of waiting for the draft and with the Great Lakes in “his backyard” it would be “a good deal”. He as stationed in the Great Lakes at first; then transferred to the East Coast, the Potomac River and then to Kure Island, a military “Loran Station” along the Hawaiian Archipelago. He said, “he went in the military as a boy, and left a man”. “A great experience”. While in the military, he was able to go to electronics school, which was one of his favorite subjects. Soon after his discharge, Vernon was hired by Giddings-Lewis, a large industrial machine company. He became a repair specialist for the computer input of a working machine. As repair specialist, Vernon soon started traveling in the US and some in Mexico as well as in Canada. California was the one place that had the most impact while traveling and definitely wanted to move to Southern California eventually. He fell in love with the weather and all the different plants and flowers. Vernon was finally transferred here. His company did call him back to Fond du Lac,WI, for a short time and he was able to return to California and finally bought his present home in Corona. He loved his home of 44 years, just “putzing” around the house; working in the yard, reading and computers, and “Football Season was the best time of the year”. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Corona, and did his ministry work by helping deliver communion to the shut-ins or sick. Vern was a member of the American Legion, post 216, in Corona. He enjoyed doing some of the projects there and joining in the 4th of July parade. Now Vernon is in Gods care, in the arms of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit showing him the eternal light.
