Virginia Quint

December 15, 1932 — January 7, 2015

Virginia Marie Quint “Ginny”, 82, of Pahrump, Nevada and previously of West Garden Grove, California, peacefully passed away at home on January 7, 2015 from Alzheimers Disease complications surrounded by her loving husband of 58 years and her adoring children. On December 15, 1932, Ginny was born to Thomas and Anne Fullam in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest of 8 children. All 4 of Ginnys grandparents immigrated from Ireland in the 1800s. Ginnys Irish heritage was a great source of pride throughout her lifetime. Upon graduation from Mercy High School in Chicago, Ginny attended Marian University in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1954, Ginny moved west to Long Beach, California. While working as a secretary at the Port of Long Beach, she met a young naval sailor from Kansas named Wayne Joseph Quint. On weekend leave, he would drive back and forth to Long Beach from San Francisco just to see Ginny. They married at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Long Beach on May 5, 1956. Ginny and Wayne made their way to the San Francisco Bay Area and began building their family of 6 children, all of whom were born in a little of over 6 years. In 1961, they moved to West Garden Grove which was their home for 30 years. They planted deep roots in their community and in St. Polycarp Parish. Ginny was the queen of multitasking. Her young children were her life, always preferring to play with them rather than having a neat house, knowing there would be time later to have an organized home. With limited means, Ginny somehow made every Christmas magical and every birthday a celebration for her children and husband. She created a home filled with fantastic diverse music, laughter, love, discipline, and faith amidst an often chaotic environment; regardless, every night Ginny and Wayne and their 6 children sat down for dinner together. She was loving, sharp, quick witted, cantankerous, faith-filled and knew how to make any time fun; all in all she was a real character. Ginny also managed to be PTA President, Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout den mother, Little League team mom and scorekeeper, and a cherished West Garden Grove Bobby Sox softball coach. Her strong conviction of the need for parental involvement in her childrens education was evident in her tremendous volunteerism at Patton Elementary, Chapman Intermediate, and Pacifica High schools. (Did she ever sleep?) Ginny and Wayne raised their children in a working class neighborhood where weekends were filled with creating their own fun with friends and family. Ginny played a mean hand of poker, made the best Thanksgiving dinner, and looked forward to making a mess in the kitchen baking Christmas treats including “bourbon balls” made with Irish whiskey. As her children grew, Ginny returned to the work force in the Garden Grove Unified School District, retiring in 1992 from Alamitos Junior High where she was the front office secretary. Upon retirement Ginny and Wayne moved from West Garden Grove to Pahrump, Nevada. They continued to create wonderful memories traveling throughout the United States in their RV. Ginnys legacy is her family. Her 6 children reflect her commitment to family, strong character, work ethic, sense of humor, and service to others. Ginny and Waynes devotion to one another was remarkable; they truly were a team. Shortly after their 50th wedding anniversary, Ginnys struggle with Alzheimers disease advanced. As Ginnys caretaker, her husband lovingly, courageously, and humbly cared for her in their home until Ginny returned to her Lord. Ginnys family is forever grateful for the unconditional assistance warmly provided by neighbors Tony and Joyce as well as the Pahrump Valley Hospice Team who provided tender loving care to Ginny in assisting Wayne to care for her at their home. Ginny is survived by Wayne, her devoted and loving husband of 58 years; daughter Linda (Mike) Hill; daughter Terri (Terry) Siegfried; daughter Patti (Dave) Feuerstein; son Wayne Jr (Tammy) Quint ; son Dennis (Kimi) Quint; daughter Anne (Bill) Hawley. Ginny leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Marissa and Michael Hill, Duane and Matthew Wise, Kristen and Melissa Feuerstein, Wayne III and Kevin Quint, Kyle Quint, Christopher and Alex Hawley; great grandchildren Aiden Wise, Sydney and Zeelynn Wise. She is also survived by her sister Patsy Fullam as well as many nieces and nephews. Ginny is preceded in death by her parents, by her brothers Tom, Ted, Larry, Quin and by her sisters Maryan and Flossie. Ginny will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A Funeral Mass will be at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Corona, California at 11:00am on Friday, January 16.
