Wanda Lou Atkin Parks, age 79 passed away peacefully on Friday, May 4, 2018 in Riverside, California due to pneumonia and septic shock. She was born the last of seven children on July 23, 1938 in Madison, Lake County, Ohio to Lynn and Alice Marie (Bower) Atkin. Wanda graduated from The Saint Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio, and offered many years of caring and service as a Registered Nurse. On March 19, 1960, Wanda married her true love, Thomas Albert Parks in Ripley, New York. They raised four children, residing in Ohio and California, eventually choosing Corona, California as their home for nearly 40 years. Wanda had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving faithfully wherever she was called, including as Ward Relief Society President. She was a very accomplished pianist and organist, sharing her talents for many years in her LDS congregations, as well as teaching piano lessons in her home. Her self-sacrifice and giving heart were evidenced in the way she served and cared for her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends. Wanda is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Thomas A. Parks; daughter, Lyn Anderson and her husband Jeff of Kearns, Utah; son, Tom Parks and his wife Tammy of Corona; daughter, Marilyn Parrish and her husband Mont of Lantana, Texas; daughter, Terri and her husband Jerry Frye of Riverside; 22 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren (and 3 on the way); sister, Marilyn Mihal of Cleveland, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Wendell, Vincent, Rupert, and Roger; her sister, Eileen; and 2 grandchildren. The family would like to express appreciation to the medical staff at Kaiser Permanente Hospital and Arlington Gardens Care Center in Riverside for their many hours of compassionate care for our mother. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Thomas Miller Mortuary in Corona, California with a viewing from 10:30-11:15 a.m. and a funeral service at 11:30. Interment will immediately follow at the Riverside National Cemetery.
