Wayne Joseph Quint

November 13, 1932 — August 11, 2025

Wayne Joseph Quint, 92, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025 in Placentia, California surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 13, 1932 during the Great Depression in Hays, Kansas to Peter and Rose Quint, he was the second youngest of eight children in a devout Catholic home. His heritage traces to Volga River Germans who as immigrants largely settled in Kansas as well as other Plains states. Growing up on the family farm, Wayne developed a strong work ethic and resilience, learning to live with very little, traits that would shape his character for a lifetime.

After graduating high school, Wayne enlisted in the United States Navy in December 1952. His service included time on the USS Blue, where he served his country proudly. During his military service, Wayne met the love of his life, Virginia, known affectionately as Ginny. They met in 1955 in Long Beach, California, where Ginny was working as a secretary at the Port of Long Beach. A proud German-American with a diligent work ethic, Wayne found a perfect match in Ginny, a fun-loving quick-witted Irish woman from Chicago, the youngest of eight children from a large Catholic family. Stationed at Hunters Point in San Francisco, Wayne would drive back to Long Beach on weekends to see Ginny. They married on May 5, 1956, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Long Beach. After Wayne completed his naval service, the newlyweds moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. They welcomed their first child, a daughter born on Wayne’s birthday in 1957, followed by the arrival of twin daughters. With a son on the way, the family moved to Southern California in 1960, and in 1961 purchased a new home in the new East Gate neighborhood of West Garden Grove. Another son and daughter were then born, building a full and loving family of six children.

Wayne worked tirelessly to provide for his family. His varied career included selling products door-to-door for Jewel T and Fuller Brush, working as milkman for Calva Dairy and later Carnation Dairy, before spending 17 years as a bus driver for Orange County Transit. Wayne and Ginny were a remarkable team as devoted parents and active community members in West Garden Grove through their involvement in the PTA, Boy and Girl Scouts, Little League, and Bobby Sox. Despite their busy family life, they never missed a school open house or back to school night and attended their children’s sporting events, school functions and music competitions. (Did they ever sleep?). Faith was a cornerstone for them, and they were active members of St. Polycarp Parish. Family time each night started around the dinner table where many memories were created. Wayne and Ginny were blessed to have very special friendships with many other families in West Garden Grove and enjoyed simple pleasures of playing cards, sipping cocktails, and laughing. They were welcoming and able to fill their home with laughter, valuable lessons, friendship, family life and love. In his rare free time, Wayne enjoyed fishing, gardening, fixing and building things, filming home movies, cooking, watching wrestling and roller derby (old school style), never turned down ice cream, and was a lifelong fan of the San Francisco Giants.

In 1992, Wayne and Ginny retired early and moved from West Garden Grove to Pahrump, Nevada, their base for traveling across the country in their RV, creating many joyful memories. After celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, Ginny’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease advanced. Wayne lovingly and selflessly cared for her at home until she returned to our Lord on January 7, 2015. In August of that year, Wayne moved back to West Garden Grove and eventually Placentia. He carried their legacy forward sharing blessed time with his adult children, their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed, but his family takes comfort knowing their father, Wayne, is reunited with their mother, Ginny. May they both rest together in Eternal Peace.

Wayne is survived by his six children who are grateful for a lifetime of incredible memories: Linda (Mike) Hill, Terri Siegfried, Patti (Dave) Feuerstein, Wayne (Tammy) Quint, Jr., Dennis (Kimi) Quint, and Anne (Bill) Hawley. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Wayne is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; parents Peter and Rose Quint; son-in-law, Terry Siegfried; grandson, Christopher Hawley; and by his seven brothers and sisters including Josephine, Edna, Irma, Lenora, Norman, Joann, and Aaron. Wayne leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

The family sincerely thanks the staff from Ivy Park at Bradford Assisted Living and Memory Care; VITAS Hospice; Lifesavers Companions, Father Danh Trinh of St. Joseph Parish in Placentia, and St. Matthew Catholic Church in Corona.

A funeral Mass will be at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Corona, California beginning with Viewing and Rosary at 12:00 noon followed by the funeral Mass at 12:45pm.
